EUROSAF general assembly – CYPRUS 2018

This year’s General Assembly of the European Sailing Federation took place on 21 April in Limassol, Cyprus. About 50 participants took part in the EUROSAF meeting, representing 29 member MNAs. The Assembly was given a brief review of last year’s activity and a preview of projects to strengthen and develop Continental sailing in the coming years.

While the morning session was dedicated to the statutory points of the OGA in accordance with the Constitution, in the afternoon MNA delegates, Committee members and guest lecturers provided the meeting with vision, insight, and proposals. The first speaker was Kim Andersen, President of World Sailing, who provided strategic outlooks for sailing beyond the Olympics. He was followed by Austrian sports law expert Dr. Thomas Wallentin, who gave a highly illustrative lecture on explosive current issues in European sports law. Followed Committee chairs, MNA delegates, and external speakers who made brief presentations.

The General Assembly was rounded off with an invitation from the Cyprus Sailing Federation to a dinner in the historic old town of Limassol.

According to the comments received from the delegates, the meeting was highly successful. All were happy to see that all short-term goals had been fulfilled, that many projects were being presented to develop sailing in Europe, and, above all, that the mood was to collaboration and cooperation. If there was a complaint, it is the meeting was too short, both to accommodate all speakers and their projects and to allow delegates to discuss them thoroughly and to network. At the Executive Board we look forward to a full year of passionate work to foster the projects and to meet next year in Istanbul for what we expect to be a two-day meeting.
