Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce finished – non-stop around Italy

With the arrival of the last crews and the prize-giving ceremony, the first edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce – Fincantieri Cup, the longest non-stop regatta in the Mediterranean, officially ended on 19 November. 

9 of the 10 teams were able to finish the race successfully, only Team Genova TOR (Dominique Knuppel & Guillermo Altadill) had to give up in the last miles. After all teams had crossed the finishing line, the International Jury discussed all the protests lodged by the crews, awarding a number of penalties for passing too close to certain islands and a 9-hour rebate to Team Fratelli Visconti because of their mainsail breakage.

The final classification saw Team Urban Value first:

1. Team Urban Value (Sophie Faguet & Pierre Leboucher)
2. Team Softway (Pam Lee & Andrea Fornaro)
3. Team Venezia Salone Nautico (Cecilia Zorzi & Alessandro Torresani)

Followed by Team Acone, Team ENIT, Team Fratelli Visconti, Marina Militare, Aeronautica Militare, Team Sanfer and Team Genova TOR.

Team Urban Value also won the three speed awards (60-minute average of 16.83 knots, 24-hour average of 11.97 knots and top speed of 17.6 knots) and the „Navy Jack“ trophy.

Satisfaction was expressed by the top management of the organizing committee about the idea of relaunching the tour around Italy by sail: An ambitious project, which has been completed twice in 2021 with results that have gone beyond expectations.

“The idea of a ‘fast’ version, to be sailed all in one going around the Italian peninsula, close to some of the most iconic Italian lighthouses, came from the desire to create a long and competitive offshore race with an international scope. I believe the objective has been fully achieved,“ commented Lieutenant Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, head of the Navy’s General Affairs Office.
