Megan Pascoe from Great Britain won the gold medal at this year’s EUROSAF 2.4mR European Championship in Quiberon, France. It was her third title after 2014 and 2016. The 36-year-old came out on top in a field of 38 athletes, featuring 28 able-bodied Olympic, world and national champions and four Paralympians.
The podium was completed by French multi-medal winner Damien Seguin and long-standing competitor Heiko Kröger from Germany. After eight races the battle for the top places was impressive. Pascoe and Seguin both won three to end up with just two points separating silver from gold. Nearly the same situation for Kröger and Squizzato (Italy), where the German ended up two points ahead of his Italian rival to secure the bronze medal.
“I am very happy to get my title back,” Megan Pascoe said after the success in Brittany, France. She has now called on sailing to return to the Paralympics. It was part of every Paralympics between 2000 and 2016, but dropped for Tokyo 2020 and then failed in a bid to return for the 2024 Games in Paris. “We need sailing back in the Paralympics – it’s an amazing pinnacle of our sport,” Pascoe concluded.
