Training, study, and research activities are the founding points of the agreement signed between the Polytechnic of Turin and the European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF). Together they will promote initiatives, programs, and synergistic research aimed at sharing experiences and information on technology and science related to the Sports Engineering sector through the use of qualified resources and appropriate tools.
In particular, the activities will focus on research related to sailing and its dissemination in this sport sector.
The different projects that will be implemented will concern the academic and professional training of students and final year students; a better knowledge of the labor market; the promotion of research doctorates and international relations networks, and the organization of institutional events. In addition, the agreement provides for exchanges for undergraduates, post-graduate students, researchers, and professors, periods of study, internships and seminars, educational opportunities for athletes, coaches, match officials, and sport administrators.
"This agreement represents a new step for the Polytechnic of Turin and its policy on the themes of sport. Innovation, research, and training in the fields of Sports Engineering see us strongly involved thanks to the contribution of several very active colleagues and student teams, such as the Polito Sailing Team" comments Marco Barla, the rector's representative for sports activities. "Agreements such as this one just signed up with EUROSAF will certainly be useful also for our second level Master's students in Sports Engineering" adds Alessandro Pezzoli, head of the Master in Sport Engineering. And Josep M. Pla, President of EUROSAF and speaker at the Top Sailing Seminar of the Master concludes "Sailing is a wonderful educational tool to make people better through sport. Thanks to the collaboration established with the Polytechnic of Turin we are taking an important step forward towards achieving one of EUROSAF's main objectives".
EUROSAF and Politecnico di Torino jointly organized a Sailing Top Seminar within the framework of the First Edition of the Specializing Master in Sports Engineering, recently launched by Politecnico di Torino, in collaboration with the Italian National Olympic Committee. On 16-17 January, experts from different nations gathered in Città Studi Biella (Italy) to discuss innovative sportswear, hydrodynamics, performance analysis, meteorology, and how to help sailing-related research reach its users. More than 40 participants attended the Seminar and the following speakers took in turn the stage: Ada Ferri and Alessandro Pezzoli, Politecnico di Torino, Christian Finnsgård and Adam Parsson, Chalmers University of Technology, Marco Iazzetta, Italian Sailing Federation, and Josep M. Pla, EUROSAF President. The participation of Polito Sailing Team, Polito students designing and building their own hull to compete in 1001Vela University Regatta, was much appreciated.
