President’s 17th Letter - 06/05/2020

Dear friends,

In these difficult pandemic times for all countries and sailors in Europe, the EUROSAF Executive Board wishes you, your families, and your sailors a good health.

2020 Electronic General Assembly

On 28 March we held a conference call with 41 attendees from 26 Members where we jointly examined the items put to the vote in the following electronic general assembly, convened as an email vote open from 31 March to 6 April.
All items put to the vote where approved: the 2019 accounts, the 2020 budget, the election of Yiannos Photiou (CYP) as auditor, the maintaining of the membership fees for 2021, the convening of a physical meeting in late September (conditions permitting) in Zagreb, and the date of the 2021 GA in Hungary (17 April 2021).
The physical meeting in Zagreb by end September calls for a special mention. Firstly, we must be grateful to the Croatian Sailing Federation for extending their hospitality to these new dates. Secondly, the vote was close (12 for, 10 against, 5 abstentions) and therefore the Executive Board is committed to call for the meeting only if travel conditions clearly allow it and the agenda warrants it. We will make the decision by end July and duly communicate it to all Members.

2022 General Assembly

Note that offers to organize the 2022 General Assembly are welcome!

2020 Events (updated on 07/05/2020)

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing disruption all over the world, and of course and regrettably, on sailing and sailing events. We are monitoring the general situation and its impact on EUROSAF Events, with due consideration to organisers’ specific problems and to the expected possibility of travel at the scheduled dates. In agreement with the event organisers we have therefore cancelled three events, postponed a fourth one, and for the time being maintained three others at their original dates, unless we are forced to postpone or cancel any of them later on.
The EUROSAF Youth Match Race European Championship that had to be sailed in Ledro, Italy, from 18 to 21 June, has been cancelled and the 2021 edition granted to the same organiser, dates tba.
The same applies to the EUROSAF Club Sailing Championship that had to take place on the same dates on Lake Lipno, Czech Republic.
The EUROSAF Pirat Youth European Championship that was scheduled on Ratzeburger See, Groß Sarau, Germany, from 26 to 31 July has also been cancelled.
The EUROSAF Open Match Race European Championship is scheduled as planned in Ekaterinburg, Russia, from 11 to 15 August.
The EUROSAF L30 European Championship is scheduled as planned in Marseille, France, from 20 to 23 August.
The EUROSAF Mixed Offshore European Championship plans to set sail for two nights at sea from downtown Genoa in the first week of September—not in June as initially announced—on L30 boats. The event will offer a unique opportunity as a training ground for national teams preparing for the Worlds in October in Malta. Qualification series will be sailed during the week, if need be, before the actual race. The notice of race will be published shortly.
The EUROSAF Women Match Race European Championship is scheduled as planned in Locarno, Switzerland, from 15 to 18 October. We expect to be able to confirm by mid June.

We look forward to all sailing Clubs being opening their doors and to all sailors resuming their sporting activities. And we wish you to stay healthy together with your families and to be able to go sailing shortly.

Best regards,

Josep M. PLA
