September 10, 2021Club Sailing Championship: locals win
The competitors of the 2021 EUROSAF Club Sailing Championship faced tricky sailing conditions on the „Neue Donau“ in the city center of Vienna. Like last weekend at the EUROSAF Match Racing, Open Europeans, the gold and silver medals finally went to home teams. The title was taken by the young team from boats2sail, also engaged in the Austrian Sailing League.
Bronze medal for premiere
It was the first time, that a team of the United Nations Sailing Club (VISC – Vienna International Sailing Club) took part in an international championship. Led by skipper Andreas Wippel, the supranational team had the best start in the event with four wins in a row, at the end they managed to finish third. „Bora Sailing“ from Sofia, the team that had travelled the furthest, was left with the ungrateful fourth place, five points behind.
Thanks to the professional work of the race management team around Sebastian Mayer, Stephan Uden and Frederik Cichon, very well known from the Kiel Week and the Travemünde Week, 32 races could be completed. After three thrilling racing days with matches only a few metres from the shore and the title decided in the last race of the event, all competitors left Vienna with a big smile.
Final Results:
Gold | Team boats2sail | 25 points |
Silver | Team Wildcard Vienna | 26 |
Bronze | Team VISC | 33 |
