EUROSAF joins the Norwegian people and the international sailing community in mourning the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, a distinguished sailor, lifelong supporter of the sport and President of Honour of World Sailing.
His Majesty represented Norway at three consecutive Olympic Games – Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972 – and remained an accomplished competitor for many decades.
Beyond his achievements on the water, King Harald embodied the values at the heart of our sport: integrity, sportsmanship, respect and fellowship. His dedication and contribution leave an enduring legacy.
Pınar Coşkuner Genç, President of EUROSAF, said: “I had the great honour and privilege of serving as His Majesty’s judge and umpire at several events. I will always remember his genuine passion, exceptional sportsmanship, and the warmth and respect with which he treated everyone around him. His Majesty represented the very finest traditions of our sport, and his example will remain an enduring part of the international sailing community.”
On behalf of the European sailing community, EUROSAF extends its deepest condolences to Her Majesty Queen Sonja, His Majesty King Haakon VIII, the Norwegian Royal Family, the Norwegian Sailing Federation and the people of Norway.
His Majesty King Harald V will be remembered with the deepest respect and gratitude.
