- EUROSAF First vice-president will be the first woman in this position
World Sailing has announced the appointment of the Technical Delegate and Chief Race Official positions for the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition. According to this, EUROSAF first vice-president Pınar Coşkuner Genç will be Principal Race Officer at the Games.
Pınar is a EUROSAF Executive Board member, and at World Sailing she is Regions and Development Committee chair. She was already a key member of the Tokyo 2020 Race Management Team, so this is the most logical next step. As the first woman in this position, she will lead a team of Course Representatives, responsible for organizing the racing of each Olympic Event, with a supporting team of additional International Race Officers.
Quanhai Li, president of World Sailing, is quoted in the announcement as follows, “All … delegates have demonstrated their knowledge, integrity and commitment to ensuring sailing at the Olympic Games will be a fair and even competition for all athletes. This will be the first Olympic Games where two of the three Chief roles in the sailing event will be female appointees.”
Josep M Pla, president of EUROSAF, greets the appointment as “a well deserved recognition to Pınar’s high technical and personal value that we witness consistently, and are fortunate to enjoy, at all levels of her involvement with EUROSAF, be it as first vice-president, as Committee liaison, as delegate at EUROSAF Events, and as a strong link to classes, on top of her race official duties the World over.”
EUROSAF congratulates her and wishes her every success!
