The young French sailor Ian Garreta took the last title this year, winning the EUROSAF Match Racing, Open European Championship 2023 in Bedanne, France.
Currently ranked number 13 in the Match Racing World Ranking the young talented sailor from France was dominating more or less the whole Europeans. He finished the Round Robin with an impressive score of 9 – 2, going into the quarter finals as best ranked team. After beating Szymon Jabłkowski from Poland in the quarter finals he also overcame best ranked sailor of the regatta, French colleague Damian Michelier (WR No. 6). Another French team was waiting in the finals. Like the two KO-rounds before, the match was sailed for the maximum numbers of duels. Maxim Mesnil finished with two wins, while Ian Garreta secured three wins in the best-of-five final series. After 4 days of sailing in winterly conditions with light winds Ian Garreta and his teammates finally won gold and their second Match Racing Medal after Bronze at the Junior Championship this Spring. With team Michelier winning the Petit Final with a 2 – 1 against Lukasz Wosinski from Poland all podium places went to teams from France.
Two times World- and three times European Match Racing Women’s winner Pauline Courtois finished on sixth place after losing against Damian Michelier a close match in the Quarter Finals with 1 – 2.
