EUROSAF Inclusive Cup 2022 – Cooperation with International 2.4mR Class
March 8, 2022Cooperation between EUROSAF and 2.4mR class extended
April 26, 2022President’s 27th Letter – 28/03/2022
Dear friends,
What a change have we seen since my previous message! We were hoping to come out of the pandemic and heading into “normal” times, even to meet personally after two years, and we have sadly and revoltingly witnessed how thirst for power and boundless ambition, threats and ruthlessness, antagonising and forced enrolment bring not only havoc and disruption, but death and desolation. What is humanity to do of such people, who surf the suffering of others to expand their power?
War in Ukraine
On news of the aggression in Ukraine, the Executive Board issued a statement, following the guidelines issued by the IOC and World Sailing and later ratified by the General Assembly.
We are in close contact with our sailing friends in Ukraine and ready to help them in any way we can. EUROSAF waived both the membership fee for the Sailing Federation of Ukraine and the entry fee for Ukrainian sailors in EUROSAF events in 2022 and we stand ready to help youth Ukrainian sailors currently in different places in Europe. Despite the irreparable damage inflicted to Ukraine and its people and the terrible news reaching us daily, the Executive Board looks forward to peace returning immediately and to sailing resuming in friendly competition, but is ready to amend EUROSAF’s statement following any new IOC and World Sailing guidelines, in the strong belief that acting in line with the sports community will enhance our common response that discussion and negotiation rather than exclusion and termination of communication are the correct ways to bridge gaps, however wide.
2022 Ordinary General Assembly
The meeting took place online on 12 March 2022, after the Executive Board evaluated the situation created by war in Ukraine and after receiving requests from Members. Sadly, for a third year in a row, it was not possible to meet personally and benefit from the invitation of the Croatian Sailing Federation in Zagreb (Croatia).
The General Assembly welcomed the North Macedonia Sailing Federation as a new EUROSAF Member. The 2021 accounts and the 2022 budget were approved. Yiannos Photiou (CYP) finished his term as auditor and Wolfgang Mayrhofer (AUT) was appointed as new auditor. The next meeting is to convene in Rome, Italy, on 11 March 2023, and the following in Budapest, Hungary (dates TBC). As pointed out above, the General Assembly ratified the EUROSAF statement issued on 3 March 2022 and gave the Executive Board authority to amend and to terminate it according to the development of the situation and to IOC and WS recommendations. Tomasz Chamera (POL) and Özlem Akdurak (TUR), World Sailing vice-presidents, were in attendance and Tomasz addressed the meeting in representation of the World Sailing Board.
In line with its long standing commitment towards knowledge, unity, and trust as EUROSAF long-term goals, the Executive Board thanks all delegates who took part constructively in the discussions, who brought their views on promoting our sport and on expanding its reach, who support EUROSAF efforts, and who reject those who surf the suffering of other people to expand their power.

Organizers setting up EUROSAF Events are eager to run successful, memorable events and want their efforts to benefit as many European sailors as possible.
