Sailing was represented in five categories and ten competitions at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. EUROSAF has dedicated the past week to the Sailing Olympians. Each day, we briefly introduced one category and highlighted the winners: |
Windsurfing (Men/Women) iQFOIL. Not to be stopped – foiling has also reached Olympic windsurfing and brings spectacular pictures of surfers flying about one meter above sea and waves. Skiff (Men/Women) 49er. Doublehanded, double trapeze and for the first time a carbon rigg. The Olympic skiff class, included in the Olympics since 2000, is known for its ability to quickly get into gliding positions. With favorable wind conditions, particularly downwind, these boats can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h. Dinghy (Men/Women) ILCA. The most popular class in Olympic sailing, with the largest worldwide spread and easiest access into the world of high performance sailing. Men and women using the same hull with different rigs and sails. Mixed (Dinghy/Multihull) The 470 has a long Olympic tradition, until Tokyo 2021 two medals have been given – in men and women class. In Paris we have seen the premiere for mixed teams. Nacra 17. Kite (Men/Women) Formula Kite. Premiere for kitesurfing and premiere for kites with foils: Speed, action and with a “final four” a totally different format for the medal decision on the final day of racing.
