January 18, 2026EUROSAF holds its 29th Ordinary General Assembly in Malta
The European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF) successfully convened its 29th Ordinary General Assembly (OGA) on 18 April 2026 in Malta, bringing together delegates from across Europe for a productive and forward-looking meeting focused on the future of sailing.
A Strong Start
The Assembly was officially opened by Acting President Pınar Coşkuner Genç, who welcomed participants and confirmed the quorum. The event was further honored by the presence of Chris Agius, Chairman of Yachting Malta, who expressed strong support for the continued development of sailing in the region.
From the outset, the meeting underscored the importance of collaboration among European sailing communities, highlighting a shared commitment to strengthening the sport’s relevance, inclusivity, and sustainability.
A central theme of the Assembly was the ongoing organizational evolution of EUROSAF. Following the conclusion of long-term support from the Austrian Sailing Federation, a new agreement with the Star Sailors League in Switzerland has been secured. This partnership ensures continued operational stability, including support for the Secretary General role and office infrastructure.
Key achievements included the coordination of approximately 11 European Championships across six countries and the delivery of 221 participation opportunities through the Race Officials Exchange Programme. Communication efforts have also been strengthened, with increasing engagement across digital platforms.
Future Projects
Looking ahead, key investment priorities include the further development of the Race Officials Exchange Programme, the expansion of the EUROSAF Sailing Academy, the launch of scholarship initiatives, and the strengthening of partnerships and external funding opportunities.
Delegates engaged in important discussions on governance matters, including alignment with World Sailing policies. A constructive exchange of views took place regarding the neutrality policy and its application within EUROSAF events. These discussions reflected the diversity of perspectives within the European sailing community while reinforcing the importance of transparency, open dialogue, and mutual respect.
To improve efficiency and strategic focus, a revised committee structure was introduced and approved. The confirmed committees include Legal, Race Officials, Events, and Development. These groups will play a vital role in supporting EUROSAF’s objectives and enhancing cooperation among Member National Authorities.
Looking Ahead
EUROSAF will continue to organize regular in-person meetings and expand its activities in preparation for the upcoming Olympic cycle, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. The 2027 Ordinary General Assembly will be hosted in North Macedonia and formally organized by the Macedonian Sailing Federation, with further details to be communicated in due course.
